When I catch, I catch it hard: Hasina
Bangladesh Awami League (AL) president and prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday claimed that no innocent people have been killed or harassed in the ongoing anti-narcotics drive which claimed over 130 lives so far.
Addressing a press conference at her official Ganabhaban residence, Hasina also said the drive has not started all of a sudden.
The prime minister organised the press conference originally to brief the media about her latest India trip, but some of the questioners drew her attention to the widespread outcry against the wholesale killing of people every day in the so-called gunfights in the name of anti-drug drive.

“As many as 10,000 people have been arrested so far. No media outlets published reports on how many people are arrested,” said Hasina.
The AL president went on saying, “We’ll of course take actions if any innocent people fell victim during the drive.
“If you say, then I can stop the anti-drug and anti-adulteration drives. Sons are killing their parents just because of drug. Look, some incidents took place when you go for conducting such drive.”
In response to a query, Hasina said, “All the godfathers and ringleaders, no matter whoever s/he is, will be nabbed. When I catch, I catch it hard. You know that. It will not be considered as to whose brother or whose relative he is.”
